Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is Serving Up Soul In Brooklyn, NY
Everyone who knows me knows, I love to eat and love good food. A few weeks ago my girlfriend and I were in Park Slope thrift shopping and we were hungry! We really couldn’t decide what type of food we wanted to eat. I remembered Dinosaur’s Restaurant was right around the corner and I immediately started to think about their Mac and Cheese. Well, let me tell you all about our amazing experience!!!
There is outside seating for you to enjoy your meal perfect for a day when there is great weather or you can choose to sit inside and enjoy the rustic, conscious environment. At first glance you can see they believe in up- cycling and repurposing old artifacts based on their decor. The decor alone won me over because I am into anything that reduces our carbon footprint and helps our environment. Soulful living is all about living in harmony with the earth and the people who inhabit it! So upcycling gets you 5 stars! We were greeted by a friendly hostess who seated us immediately!! The time of day was around 2pm on a Wednesday which as perfect time for a late afternoon lunch for 2 girlfriends who wanted to eat, chat and relax!
A Little History about Dinosaurs location…
Built in 1941, 604 Union St. housed a motor freight company and later a tool and die company before becoming the Brooklyn Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Before the construction of the current building, the site was home to F. Donovan’s Sons Co. Inc. Contractors and Truckmen. They have been feeding Brooklyn delicious BBQ since June 2013.
What shall we eat…
I had already known about the Dinosaur’s Bar-b-que wings and mac and cheese (which are Oh So Delicious), but this day I wanted to try something different!! Our waitress was amazing!! She shared with us what was good on the menu and explained how they actually smoke the meats on the premises which often times take is much as 24 hour to complete. It was suggested we try the Swag Sampler Platter! I am so grateful I took our waitress’ suggestion to try the sampler because it was amazing and very flavorful!
Swag Sampler Platter
Drunken Spicy Shrimp Boil, Creole Deviled Eggs (not spicy, just flavorful), Fried Green Tomatoes (Breaded with a Parmesan styled coating) Barbecue Wings (Tender) served up with 3 Different Sauces. Make sure you order the Swag Sampler – Enough to share with a friend or 2!! Delicious! We paired it up the Homemade Lemonade, designed for those of us who don’t like alot of sugar! It had the right amount of tart and sugar!
Our Entree was a combo platter comprised of chicken, ribs, collard greens, mac and cheese along with a corn muffin!! Everything was seasoned well, the mac and cheese was cheesy and creamy, collard greens had that down south flavor, chicken was seasoned to the bone and the ribs were falling off the bone tender!
I must say everything about this experience at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que was amazing from the staff to the food and the ambience. I would definitely frequent this restaurant and I recommend you stop by and grab a bite to eat if you are in the neighborhood of a Dinosaur Bar-B-Que because they are not just located in Brooklyn, NY!
Keep in mind this is what good Bar-b-que looks like! Good right down to the bare bone with an empty glass of Lemonade!
Check out their website for a location near you! Mention you heard about them here or maybe you caught the live broadcast on Periscope!
